The title is a bit deceptive, as that is less a sports biography about Babe Ruth than this is a broader panorama of American culture in the 1920s and early-1930s. An eclectic spiral of stories — the Lindbergh kidnapping trial, New York mayoral politics, the coming of the Great Depression — but infrequently pretty ambiguously connected. Babe Ruth, on the other hand, circles through as the link, the nation’s most famed persona of the era. A very compelling read, once the premise is revealed. This can be a First Edition, published by the Thomas Y. Crowell Company in 1974. 309 pages in a 6.25 x 9.25 hardcover format with a quality assortment of rare period photos. This particular copy is in what I would describe as “Very-Good-minus” condition through the text block. Some very light foxing appears on the page edges, and there may be some yellowing of the endpapers. In a different way the interior is very crisp and clean and white, and shows only light reading and handling. A slight wiggle to the spine but still solidly bound. The dust jacket (price-clipped) is in “Good-plus” condition. A modest assortment of the typical scratches and scuffs, but no chips or tears. Please see the scans. I use USPS Media Mail for all book shipments, and all the time ship within three days of a confirmed payment. Combined shipping, at a discounted rate, will be provided for all more than one book orders. Sorry, I accept PayPal only. Please see my other baseball book listings as they appear on eBay.
