This book used to be acquired from the estate of a descendant of the Civil War Veteran, Byron Donovan, whose biographical sketch (in conjunction with those of his three brothers who also served — and survived!) will likely be found on pages 59 and 60. Included with the book is a packet of memorabilia consisting of newspaper clippings, letters, scrapbook items it appears from a travel to Washington, D.C., and so on., amounting to about 20 different items from and about friends and relatives obviously compiled over many years, including a clipping from the Des Moines Register newspaper dated Sunday, June 30, 1929, about President Calvin Coolidge returning to civilian life as “only a common lawyer again.” At the front pastedown, there’s a personal note to the veteran, Mr. Donovan, from the publisher, Mr. Schee.Curiously, below this, is a personal note, “Would possibly God Bless you . . .” to the publisher from Mr. Donovan .
